Eight student-athletes from fall sports earn NAIA scholar-athlete honors
(published 12/6/11) Waleska, Ga. – Eight Reinhardt University student-athletes who competed in fall sports recently earned 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. To receive the award, a student-athlete must be a junior or above in academic standing and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Women’s soccer honorees
Five members of Reinhardt’s 2011 women’s soccer team garnered the national recognition, including senior Katherine Amatulli, an accounting major from Roswell, Ga.; senior Kelsey Carl, a sport studies major out of Canton, Ga.; senior Diane Prescott, an accounting major from Woodstock, Ga.; senior Elizabeth Waite, a sport studies major out of Cumming, Ga.; and junior Chelsa Hise, an accounting major/marketing minor from Newnan, Ga. Carl is a repeat selection from last year.
Additional honorees
The sports of volleyball, men’s cross country and women’s cross country each had one student-athlete on the elite lists. Those honorees include senior volleyball player Kayla Spivey, an early childhood education major out of Woodstock; senior men’s cross country runner Owen Bagley, a history major/art minor from Dacula, Ga.; and senior women’s cross country runner Melissa Blumer, a business major out of Ellijay, Ga. All three earned the accolades for the second straight season.
