Guerrero, Rongoey Named AAC Runners of Week for Cross Country
Reinhardt University cross country student-athletes Daniel Guerrero and Linda Rongoey were each named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Runner of the Week for men’s and women’s cross country, respectively, for their performances between Oct. 3-9. It marks the first time that either runner has earned the weekly conference honor.
Guerrero Stats
Guerrero, a 5-foot-6, 125-pound sophomore from Woodstock, Ga., ran an 8K time of 30:06.59 at the Southern Collegiate Challenge in Acworth, Ga., last Saturday. Among 21 runners and three squads from four-year institutions, he led Reinhardt to the team championship by finishing in first place individually.
Guerrero is in his second year as a member of the Eagles’ cross country team. He has raced in all four meets this season and been Reinhardt’s top finisher twice. Guerrero also paced the Eagles on two occasions as a freshman before posting a career-best 8K time of 28:56.96 at the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship meet.
Rongoey Stats
A 5-foot-6 junior out of Nakuru, Kenya, Rongoey is a first-year transfer from nearby Chattahoochee Technical College who competed in just her second race for Reinhardt and first at the 5K distance on Saturday. Among 27 runners from four-year schools at the same meet in Acworth, Rongoey medaled and led the Lady Eagles by placing third with a time of 22:23.33.
Rongoey was also the team’s No. 1 finisher in her Reinhardt debut on Sept. 30 when she clocked a 6K time of 27:05.59 at the Tiger Twilight Invitational, hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.
Team Stats
Reinhardt’s men’s squad has put together a record of 7-23 this year while the Lady Eagles have not yet qualified for a team score. Both teams are at the Southeast Classic, hosted by Berry College, on Oct. 22 in Mount Berry, Ga.
