Jordan Turner ’07 Named Head Cross Country Coach at Reinhardt

TurnerJordan Turner has joined the Reinhardt University athletic department as the head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Turner, who also serves Reinhardt as an admissions counselor, is in charge of handling all aspects associated with Reinhardt’s intercollegiate cross country programs.

“I am very excited to have Jordan Turner return to Reinhardt and head up our cross country programs,” Reinhardt athletic director Bill Popp said. “He was a successful student-athlete and leader on our campus as an undergraduate and will now be able to take his leadership to a new level. Jordan has experienced the highest levels of NAIA competition and with his energy and drive is the perfect fit to lead our teams right to the top of our conference.”

Turner comes back to Reinhardt from Georgia Highlands College in Rome, Ga., where he worked for the past year as an enrollment management specialist. Before that, he was an admissions recruiter at Georgia Highlands for two years.

A recipient of a Presidential Scholarship, Turner earned his bachelor’s degree in May 2007 from Reinhardt, with cum laude honors, in communication with a concentration in public relations and advertising. The University’s Student Government Association president for the 2006-07 academic year, Turner also excelled as a cross country runner for the Eagles. He was honored as the male winner for 2006-07 of Reinhardt’s Golden Eagle Award, presented annually to the University’s top student-athlete. In cross country, Turner was a four-time member of the All-Southern States Athletic Conference Team and qualified for the NAIA national meet all four seasons from 2003-06. As a senior, he earned First Team All-Region XIII accolades and finished third at the SSAC Championship.

“As an alumnus, I feel like I’ve got a lot to give back to the school because it gave a lot to me,” Turner said. “It’s an exciting opportunity and I see a lot of potential in the student-athletes that we have here. I look forward to sharing my good experiences from Reinhardt with them.”

Still an avid runner today, Turner was the overall champion of the Berry Half Marathon in Rome in 2011 and was the runner-up in the same event earlier this year. In 2010, he won the Atlanta 13.1 Half Marathon. Turner’s personal-best times include 26:57 for 8K, 33:50 for 10K, 1:12:37 for a half marathon and 2:42:29 for a marathon.

Turner is originally from nearby Canton, Ga. He is a 2003 graduate of Sequoyah High School.
