May 3 is Opening Night for Waleska Farmers Market at RU; Schedule Set for Spring, Summer and Fall Markets

Thursday nights in Waleska, Ga. will be the talk-of-the-town once again as the Waleska Farmers Market at Reinhardt University hosts its opening night May 3 and continues on through the spring, summer and fall with markets every Thursday, May 3- August 30.

“This year will be a big one for the Waleska Farmers Market,” said Zach White, Reinhardt horticulturist. “Last year we were open two days a month, but with such an overwhelming response of vendors wanting to participate and customers wanting to shop, this year the Market is every Thursday night! This will give our vendors more opportunities to sell their produce and goods and more opportunities for customers to purchase them. It’s a win-win for everyone!”
 

Market Schedule

The dates for the market this year are: May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; June 7, 14, 21, 28; July 5, 12, 19, 26; and August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. A special fall market will be on October 4. Each market is from 4:15-7:30 p.m.

Special Events

Voted the 4th Best Farmers Market in Georgia, the Waleska Farmers Market is sure to have plenty to offer this year. Twenty-five vendor spaces will be available at $2 each. Several special events, in addition to the market, have been planned, including a speaker/educational series featuring:

  • May 17 at 5:15 p.m. – Zach White, horticulturist, “Top 10 Annuals for the North Georgia Area”
  • May 31 at 5:15 p.m. – Anne and Ted Shearouse, Waleska Nursery, “All About Hydrangeas”
  • June 7 & 14 – Waleska Bloom Photo Contest entries
  • June 21 & 28 – Waleska Bloom Photo Contest voting

The summer markets will include cooking demonstrations and contests as fresh homegrown vegetables start to arrive at the Market in late June to early July. And, as always at every market, vendors will be selling locally-grown bedding and flowering plants, vegetables, handmade pottery, candles and homemade baked goods and much more.

“The Market was initially established to bring us together as a community and revive the appreciation for our small town; it has done that and so much more,” said White. “It has created such a positive spirit for Waleska and Reinhardt University that I’ve never found anywhere else.” 

“There will be so much fresh produce and home-made goods offered by our local community members at this year’s markets,” he said. “Be sure to come out and enjoy the beautiful evenings at the Waleska Farmers Market in downtown Waleska!”

Market Details

Sponsored by Reinhardt University, the Waleska Farmers Market is in the parking lot behind the Red Sea Church at the corner of Highway 140 and 108 in downtown Waleska. Admission and parking are free, and the market will operate rain or shine. Pre-registration is required for all vendors.
