Reinhardt Announces $22,000 Raised from 2nd Annual Athletics Golf Tournament; Congratulates Winners of Tourney
originally published 10/18/11 – With more than 200 scholarship student-athletes, 17 intercollegiate teams and cheerleading, and football recently added to the program, Reinhardt intercollegiate athletics has more offerings and demands than ever. For that reason, University planners decided in 2010 to add a fall golf tournament to support athletics. Now in it’s second year of play, the tournament, played at Callahan’s Golf Links in Waleska, Ga., on October 18, 2011, was a huge success. The initial amount raised from the event was $22,000, and all funds will go to support Reinhardt’s sports programs and student-athletes.
“Intercollegiate athletics play a vital role in life at Reinhardt,” said Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood, president. “Our second event was a success, and we look forward to the tournament growing every year. It’s a great way for those who love athletics to get involved and make a real difference!”
Tournament’s Winning Teams
Reinhardt’s Director of Fundraising and Church Relations Barbara Manous added to Isherwood’s sentiments. “Under the leadership of Jay Wallace and the dedication of the Reinhardt coaches and other committee members, the tournament surpassed all expectations by having more players and more donations than last year. Proceeds from this event go toward the athletic program at Reinhardt University and benefit our student-athletes. Everyone involved worked very hard to make sure this tournament was enjoyed by all participants.”
Two teams were awarded top honors. The overall winner of the tournament, taking First Low Gross, was the team of Jeff Trotter (from left), Ken Owen and Devoy Bell. While the team of Chris (from left) and Rick Jefferies, who were congratulated by Glen Crawford, head softball coach and assistant athletic director-compliance, earned First Low Net.
