Reinhardt Athletes Earn Weekly Accolades
Candace Turcotte, a senior psychology major, has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference Volleyball Hitter of the Week for her performance during the Eagles’ most recent five contests. Men’s soccer goalkeeper Matt Amis, a sophomore European history major, has been named AAC Defender of the Week for his solid play in the Eagles’ two matches last week. The announcement was made by the AAC office Monday afternoon.
Turcotte’s Stats
Turcotte was solid last week for the Eagles, recording double-digit kills in four of the five matches Reinhardt played. Against Freed-Hardeman, Turcotte had 16 kills in just three sets, good for a 5.33 kills per set average. The Pembroke, Ontario native had a double-double in Reinhardt’s contest against Tennessee Wesleyan, tallying a week-high 17 kills while adding 10 digs.
For the week, Turcotte averaged 3.20 kills per set. The senior was also solid at the net for the Eagles, adding 21 total blocks for a 1.05 blocks per set average.
“Candace had a very good week for us,” said Reinhardt head coach Jenny Hayes. “This is a well-deserved honor for her. I believe her solid play will continue well into the AAC season.”
Turcotte’s award follows on the heels of teammate Amelia Moore winning the AAC Player of the Week award the previous week. Moore averaged 3.63 kills and 2.05 digs per set last week in earning the honor.
Turcotte, Moore, and the rest of the Eagles will be back in action Tuesday evening when they host Truett-McConnell. First serve at the Brown Athletic Center is set for 7 p.m.
Amis’ Stats
Amis averaged nine saves per match last week for the Eagles, keeping Reinhardt in a pair of road contests. Last Wednesday against University of the Cumbrlands, Amis had 15 saves, helping the Eagles preserve a, 1-1, draw. Three days later at Martin Methodist College, Amis was strong again between the pipes, making three saves in a 1-0 loss.
The Sutton, England native was in goal for all 200 minutes the Eagles played last week. The sophomore currently ranks eighth in NAIA Division I with 36 saves in six matches played on the young season.
Amis and the rest of the Eagles will be back in action today when they face Tennessee Wesleyan in the AAC opener for Reinhardt. Kickoff in Athens, Tenn., is set for 4:15 p.m.
