Reinhardt Men’s Basketball Team Tied for First Place in AAC Pre-season Coaches’ Poll

Jeffrey Pourchieroriginally published 10/20/11 – In the 2011-12 preseason poll of Appalachian Athletic Conference head coaches, the Reinhardt University men’s basketball team received 69 points, tying for first place among nine programs.

Reinhardt tied with the Milligan College Buffaloes, last season’s AAC regular season champions, for the top spot. The Eagles got two first-place votes to Milligan’s five. Following closely behind those top two squads in third place are the Union College (Ky.) Bulldogs, the defending AAC Tournament titlists, with 65 points and one first-place vote. The Virginia Intermont College Cobras are fourth with 51 points while the remaining first-place vote went to the Bluefield College Rams, who tallied 45 points for fifth place. Rounding out the poll are the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs (sixth, 40 points), Bryan College Lions (seventh, 34 points), Montreat College Cavaliers (eighth, 21 points) and Point University Skyhawks (ninth, 11 points), a conference newcomer.

Reinhardt, under fifth-year head coach Jeffrey Pourchier, ended 16-15 overall last season, including 9-5 in the AAC for third place. The Eagles advanced to the AAC Tournament championship game but lost by one point, just missing out on the conference’s automatic bid to the NAIA Division II national event. Reinhardt opens its upcoming campaign at the Point University Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 4-5.
