Theatre program invited to perform play at Georgia Military College
(11/10/11) Waleska, Ga. – Time flies when you’re having fun, as experienced by the students and faculty in the Reinhardt University theatre program who traveled to Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., on Nov. 4. GMC Theatre Director Amy Zipperer invited the group to the campus to perform the David Ives’ short play Time Flies. Zipperer had participated in a 24-Hour Play Festival at Reinhardt this past October.
“I am so thankful that Georgia Military College invited us to perform here,” said Pollitt. “We have been blessed with the best cast and crew.”
Reinhardt theatre members attending were Dr. Wayne Glowka, dean of arts and humanities; Dr. Kevin Crawford, professor of English and theatre and theatre program coordinator; Paige Pollitt, student government representative for theatre; Lauren Coleman and Greg Chafin, actors; and Nancy Tuttle and Kyle Beaman, crew members.
David Ives’ Time Flies
Time Flies is a comedy about the life of a mayfly bug, with fifties-era lingo and an overall swing to it. The character of May, the mayfly, was portrayed by Coleman, who has been acting at the University for four years, and in spring 2012, will be Reinhardt’s first graduate with a degree in theatre studies. Chafin, a Reinhardt senior, who has both performed and worked on performance technical crews, played the character of Horace. Beaman worked lights and sounds for the show, and Tuttle served as stage-manager.
Zipperer’s initial thought was to put Time Flies right before the intermission, but as she went through the first dress rehearsal, she decided to have the Reinhardt University play close the show. There was an audience of over 300, and the crowd roared with excitement and laughter when they saw the chemistry between Coleman and Chafin on stage. The show got a standing ovation.
Reinhardt theatre production – Nov. 21
Time Flies will be performed again, along with a collection of student-directed plays, on Nov. 21, at 11 a.m., for Reinhardt students, and 7:30 p.m., for family and community members, in the Hoke O’Kelley auditorium on Reinhardt’s campus in Waleska, Ga. The event is free and open to the public. Tiffany Perry, the president of Reinhardt Theatre Club, is “excited about all the opportunities that being a part of this production will offer!”
“We are currently building up our theatre department,” said Crawford. “With hard work and productions like this, we can make that possible.”
