Three Reinhardt Volleyball Players Receive Post-season Honors from AAC

Waleska, Ga. — Three members of the 2011 Reinhardt University volleyball team were honored with postseason awards from the Appalachian Athletic Conference on Wednesday morning. In a vote of the nine conference head coaches, Reinhardt had one Second Team All-AAC selection and three players named to the all-academic team.

Sami Lane – Second Team All-AAC

The Lady Eagles’ Sami Lane, a 5-foot-10 senior outside hitter from Kennesaw, Ga., garnered Second Team All-AAC accolades after earning first team honors the last two seasons. Lane, who battled injuries in her final campaign, was also chosen to the AAC All-Academic Team for the third straight year. She currently leads Reinhardt in kills (259), kills per set (2.59), total attacks (865), service aces (37), service aces per set (0.37), digs (375) and digs per set (3.75). Within the conference, Lane ranks second in service aces per set, tied for fifth in service aces, eighth in digs per set, ninth in kills per set, 10th in kills and 10th in digs. She was once named the AAC Hitter of the Week in 2011.

Other Lady Eagles joining Lane on the AAC All-Academic Team are 5-foot-7 senior right-side hitter/defensive specialist Kayla Spivey from Woodstock, Ga., and 5-foot-2 junior defensive specialist Heidi Switzer, who is also out of Woodstock. It marks the second time that Spivey has made the all-academic list. To be recognized as a part of the all-academic team, a player must: have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better and be at least a sophomore in academic status.

Team Stats

Reinhardt is 8-21 overall and finished in seventh place during the AAC regular season with a 4-12 record. The No. 7-seeded Lady Eagles play the second-seeded Bryan College Lady Lions at the AAC Tournament on Wednesday night in Kingsport, Tenn.
