Center for Hellenic Studies

I am currently a participant in a week-long seminar, sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges, and held at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC, on the ancient Greek historian Herodotus. It has been pretty intense, but I am glad for the opportunity to explore this most fascinating of ancient authors, and with some genial colleagues. I will try to post more about this experience at a later date; in the meantime, here are some photos:

The main building.

Stoa apartments.

Guest houses. I get to stay in the one on the right. (To my chagrin these are designated with Roman and not Greek letters – although my room is very comfy indeed!)

A little humor on the Center’s vehicle.

The pop singer Donovan has been inspired by Sappho – he has been a visitor to the center, and some of his art is on display.
